I Love Jet Noise because when you hear one jet, you will usually hear another one as well! Of course, if they are practicing their "touch & go's" then you will hear the same one over and over again. Generally speaking though, when you hear a jet go overhead and when you look to see it, chances are you will see another one. I was standing in our front yard one day, when a jet flew over our neighborhood. Almost immediately I saw another one catching up to the first one. Then a third jet flew over, and immediately following that one, a fourth one came into view. As I watched them align themselves into formation and head for the Atlantic ocean, I was reminded how the Navy normally sends its pilots out in pairs. Also, as I've reflected on this procedure, I realize that each time they fly they are on a specific mission to a specific place. I believe there is a spiritual application we can learn from this.
First, we need partners when we are called to be laborers in the spiritual harvest. Just as a pilot has a wingman, so we need someone who can spiritually watch our backs. We are not supposed to do live the Christian life in isolation from other believers.
Second, God has specific places where He wants each of us to minister. Some of you reading this are exactly where God wants you to be and I rejoice with you in this blessing. Others of you may need to take a different job or even move so you will be on the mission field God has appointed for you. Maybe God is even calling someone reading this to come and join us in Virginia Beach as part of the Harvest Fellowship of VB team.
Third, He has specific things He wants us to accomplish.
In the first part of my sermon series on "I Love Jet Noise", I preached from Matthew 9:35-38 in which Jesus urges us to "Pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."
Last night's sermon was from Matthew 10:5-15 and I was amazed at how quickly Jesus sends out his apostles as laborers in the harvest. My outline was as follows:
When Jesus sends us into the spiritual harvest we must:
1.) GO where He directs.
2.) OBEY His commands.
3.) TRUST in His provision.
4.) SEARCH for a person of peace.
Take care and keep the jet noise coming!
