I've just read a management book by Jack Welch entitled, "Winning." He is
the former Chairman and CEO of General Electric, so he knows a thing or
two about succeeding in business and leading people. In fact, his
professional advice is so in demand, people pay big bucks to attend one of
his seminars. For the rest of us who cannot afford to go to one of these
events, he wrote this book.
I've found many of the principles about leading people to be very applicable to leadership within the church, because afterall, God's common grace extends beyond the church. However, not everything he espoused was applicable to the church. There is one bit of advice in particular which I found be "losing" advice and not "winning" advice. At one of his seminars he was asked, "Do you think you will go to heaven?" and his answer left me very sad and concerned for his eternity.
What does it matter if you "win" in this life, but are not ready for the life to come? This Sunday's sermon will show us how to truly win in this life and the next. Check out James 2:14-26.
Hope you can come. We meet at the Virginia Aquarium's Marsh Pavillion at
10:30 AM each Sunday.
Blessings,
Bert
