If you believe prayer is important to the Christian, then you are sadly mistaken. I was at a convention when the speaker asked, "How many of you think that prayer is important?" Of course I raised my hand with everyone else in the sanctuary. Then the speaker said, "You're wrong. Prayer is essential." I have to admit, he was right. There are lots of things in life that are important, like getting a good education, working hard, and obeying the rules. However, there are really only a hand full of things which are essential, such as breathing, eating, and shelter to name a few.
Therefore, in the spiritual life we must come to embrace the absolute necessity of prayer. Without it, we shrivel up and die spiritually.
