When you've returned from an out of town trip, have you ever had someone ask you, "Why did you go there?" Possible answers include, visiting relatives, attending a business meeting, or vacationing. Some times it might include any combination of these three. Regardless of the reason for going on the trip, we generally take trips in order to accomplish some type of goal.
When I think about Easter, I'm reminded that the eternal Son of God left heaven and came to earth for an extended trip. He spent 33 sinless years here, died on a cross, rose from the dead, and then returned to heaven. Upon His return, I wonder if anyone asked Him why He took the trip to earth? Of all the possible answers He could give, I believe John 10:10 gives a good reason, "The thief comes but to steal, kill, and destroy, but I have come that they may have life more abundantly."
That's a pretty good reason, and I'm glad He did it for us!
