At Bible Study tonight, we discussed how Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death on the cross. (Philippians 2:8) What an amazing descent! The eternal Son of God stepped out of eternity and subjected Himself to the limitations of earth by becoming one of us. He was like us in every way but for sin, because He had no sin. However, Jesus descended even lower than the rest of humanity has ever or will ever descend. You see, in our sinful state we deserve the wrath of God which is the righteous judgment of God, and the righteous judgment of God means that we all the deserve the wages of our sin, which is death.
Here is the amazing thing. Jesus bore the sins of the world while He suffered on the cross, which means that He bore the wrath of God for sins He did not commit. Even the most awful murderer, will only be punished for the sins he commits. Yet the Holy One suffers for the sins of us all.
What an amazing Savior we have who is willing to lower Himself so that we can be redeemed!
