The Oscars are happening this evening, so that means there will be winners and there will be losers. It also means there will be people talking about the outlandish outfits the stars wore as they got out of their limosines and walked down the red carpet. Many people could care less about the actual winners and losers as determined by the film academy, because they are more interested in seeing who wins the fashion contest. While this interest in seeing the latest styles can be fun, I want us to think about what Jesus wore as He went to the cross.
Every painting we see of Jesus carrying the cross and being on the cross shows Him with some minimal amount of covering, however, this was not the case. It was common in that day to crucify criminals completely naked in order to utterly humilate and degrade them. Therefore, the only thing that Jesus most likely wore as He was being crucified, was the painful crown of thorns. When we think of low Jesus humbled Himself, so that we might be with God, let us be amazed. Jesus' "fashion statement" on the cross speaks of God's great love for us!!
