As I write this post, the rain is coming down by the bucket loads, and I'm okay with it. We've been dry over the past month, so we've been needing the rain. You know, there's something very profound about the rain, or any weather phenomena for that matter. We cannot control the weather, we can only respond to it.
Earlier today, I was contemplating how a farmer would respond during a drought. He can do everything right when it comes to cultivating the field and planting the seed, and yet he is totally at the mercy of God as to whether the weather will cooperate. If there is too much rain, the crop will drown and won't produce. If there is not enough rain, the crop will shrivel up in the field, and there will be no harvest. No matter how hard he works, he cannot guarantee he will have anything to show for all his effort.
How would you respond if all your hard work was for nothing? How would you feel if things completely out of your control, caused your crop to fail? May I suggest the only thing we can do is give glory to God, even in the midst of trial. There was a man who lost everything, and his name was Job. His response should be our response, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD." (Job 1:21)
